Nellis AFB Air Show

Aviation Nation 2011

Hi, folks, and welcome to the Nellis Air show 2011. As usual it was a great show, though I must say slightly less impressive than the last couple of years. But I'll just attribute that to statistical abberation and continue to assume that "Nellie" will always give a good show.

I'm going to try a different format with this album. As you've noticed in the other albums, I caption every picture. You also undoubtedly noticed that some of my captions get pretty corny and sound like I'm really reaching for something to say. Well, that's exactly the case. So this year, I'm not going to caption a shot unless absolutely necesary. First of all, if you're viewing this site, you're a jet freak like me and already know what you're looking at. Second, without the time for captions, I'll have more time to upload photos, which means you'll get more photos this year. And finally, if you really don't know what you're looking at, you can just send me an e-mail and I can tell you. Simple, right? Or, if you want to know something about a jet that I don't explain, just Google it.

I present the photos in the chronological order that I took them.

So...let's get this show on the road, okay? Enjoy!

Day One:

(Above) NASA T-38 flown in by astronaut Michael Lopez-Alegria (call sign "L-A").

(Above and Below) The kind folks from Commodore Aerospace allowing spectators to try on their O-2 gear. Commodore maintains, advises, supplies, and promotes use of the surplus USAF O-2 fleet. They are a super crowd and well worth talking to. Their O-2s are in first rate condition. If I only had the money...

(Above) Artistic closeup of the B-2. Now, why I didn't take a shot of the whole jet, I don't know. But be patient. You will be rewarded a few pages farther on.

(Above) The B-1 flyby. I tell ya, that 500mm lens is almost too much lens!
